The welding arms (also called conductors or electrode holders) are made of a good conductive material, so that a good electrical connection is obtained between the welding device and the electrode holders with the electrodes.
The position of the electrode holders determine the shapes of the product you can spot weld. In practice, you choose a version where you weld with the shortest possible electrode projection. That way, you keep the window area as small as possible and limit wear on the electrode.
